  • Listening to: Absolutely nothing.
  • Playing: Mario Golf (GBA), FF12, Suikoden 4, etc.
Alright, one of my friends is doing an awesome tournament here on DA called "Super Smash Brothers: Original Character". Obviously, it's based off of the Smash Bros. games. This journal is the profile for my character entry. So if you're not interested, just go over to my favorites list (since they're all better artists than I am...). If you are, then read on!

Super Smash Bros OC Club:
:iconsupersmashbros-oc:

Weapon: Paladin longsword, named Firestar.

Profile:

In the game "Quest for Glory", you play a hero whose name and occupation you choose yourself. William is my (main) version. Images here:

Personality:

As a Paladin, he always seeks to uphold goodness and Honor. He always seeks to do what is right, even when the law says otherwise - which surprises those who think that being a Paladin means strictly upholding the law. With all of his experience, he tends to take on a mentor-like role for any young adventurers he may come in contact with. However, he also feels that "doing it yourself" is the best way to learn, so sometimes he comes across as obnoxious for his seeming "I know something you don't know" manner. But when the going gets tough, he's as dependable an ally or as dangerous an enemy as one can look for.

Has a generally serious but warm-hearted nature, always willing to laugh at a good joke or make a new friend or ally. Because of this, however, he's caught more than one foe off-guard; experience has tempered him with the ability to become serious and quick-thinking when he or someone nearby is threatened.

For a long time, he seemed to be in a state of semi-retirement as he contented himself with working as the shopkeeper and blacksmith for the family's store, the "Brother's Armory and Magic Shop". Recently, however, he's realized that as a Paladin, he must once again become more active in the fight against evil, so he has taken up his blade in the defense of all that is right.

As a Fighter:

He's a "slow but strong" fighter, being able to take hits and dish them out with the best of them. His jumping isn't all that good, and he walks at about an average speed, but has good recovery time from enemy attacks. Like Link, he's a sword-and-shield fighter and uses a variety of slashing attacks for most of his moves, though he does mix in a few other techniques when they're more effective, such as a downward kick in midair or a shield-ramming attack when running.

Moves:

A) A single tap results in a quick thrust for decent damage; continued tapping goes up to a 3-hit combo, the second and third being horizontal then diagonal down-to-up slashes for more damage.
vA) William makes two quick horizontal slashes at knee height.
^A) He stabs his sword straight up; does even more damage to enemies attacking down at him.
<-A-> ) William draws back and makes a single, vicious slash at his enemy's midsection.
Running A) William rams his enemy with his shield, which doesn't do as much damage, but can send an opponent flying.
Midair A) He swings in an overhead slash that can hit all directions but down for moderate damage.
Midair vA) The hero uses a downward kick, similar to Samus'.
Midair ^A) He does a midair uppercut slash with his sword.
Grab) Reaches out with his shield arm and grabs his opponent.
Grab A) He head-butts his target.
Throw) William throws his victim in the direction indicated (slamming them into the ground when downward), for a short distance, but dealing good damage if it hits someone else.

Special Moves:

B) Holy Strength - Like Marth and Roy, William draws back his sword and charges for a powerful sword strike.
<-B-> ) Throw - William pulls back as he reaches for a weapon to throw; the longer the button is held, the stronger the result:
Rock - Weakest thrown weapon, it's also the fastest moving and farthest flying.
Dagger - Low damage and good range.
Simbani Spear - Only decent range, but getting more powerful... very rarely, he throws the Simbani Spear of Death, striking for severe damage (home-run bat style)
Paladin Sword - William throws Firestar straight at his opponent. Shortest range, but does the most damage. On occasion, the opponent will also get struck by lightning (similar to Pikachu's Thunder attack, except centered on whoever got hit by the sword) and stunned (if on the ground).
^B) Honor Shield - William makes a leap/uppercut with his shield. Only a medium recovery move, but his shield works as both an attack and a defense, similar to Peach's umbrella.
vB) Awe - William calls upon the powers of righteousness and truth and surrounds himself with the strongest magic in a Paladin's arsenal. The aura reflects projectiles, and sends anyone next to William flying even at low amounts of damage. Slow recovery time afterwards, however.

Taunts:

-Stands straight, beckoning with his shield hand while saying "Give me your best shot!"
-Points his sword at an opponent, saying "I know you can do better!"
-Does an elaborate bow, left hand over his chest and right arm waved to one side.

Victory Poses:

-Turns to the screen with his left foot back, fists on his waist and flashes a big, cheesy heroic smile.
-Sheathes his sword and throws his arm up in response to gladiator-like cheering.

Final Smash:

"Trial by Fire"
William raises his sword to the heavens while surrounded by a holy light, and the white Crystal in the crossguard of his blade shines with a bright flash. The other 8 Crystals streak to him like miniature comets from all directions, doing a small amount of damage to any they hit on the way. When they all merge in one, waves of elemental energy surge throughout the battlefield; an inferno first rages in a sphere surrounding William, followed by a cyclone which rises in a pillar in the same area. Next, an earthquake shakes up all those on the ground, and finally a wave of water simply washes over the lower end of the battlefield. Each elemental wave strikes for massive damage to anyone in its range, and due to the nature of each wave it's difficult to avoid the attack entirely - especially the Earth and Water attacks. As per a friend's suggestion, this smash is very effective on smaller stages (such as Yoshi's Island or The Palace of Raseir), while less effective on extremely large stages (such as Hyrule Temple).

Courses: (More to come)

"The Palace of Raseir"
A large balcony overlooking the city of Raseir dominates the center of the 'rooftop' arena, with a balcony to either side on adjacent towers, and one 'indoors' balcony overlooking the center area. The large, center balcony features a large magic hexagram with a small emerald statuette in the center and candles on each corner. A magic tightrope extends between the center balcony and the one on the right, acting as a normal floor - except that it vanishes for short, random periods of time then reappears again. The harem girl Nawar occasionally leans out of a window over the left balcony and drops random items for the fighters beneath before blowing a kiss and vanishing again into the palace.
Every time a fighter gets KO'ed, one of the six candles lights up. The first and second times that all the candles are lit, a purple Djinni will show up and blow them out. The third time that all the candles are lit, the evil sorcerer Ad Avis will show up on the center balcony and begin his ritual - the center balcony will be surrounded in a ring of fire and he will shoot off random bolts of magic at the combatants until knocked off the screen. If ignored for a half a minute, Ad Avis will summon the Djinni Iblis, who will automatically KO all fighters, after which he and Ad Avis vanish and the entire 'candle lighting' sequence starts over.

"Simbani Proving Grounds"
The level starts in the village, with tall wooden fencing in the background and Simbani villagers cheering on the combatants, and near the balancing bridge - a construction of two wooden platforms with a pair of logs suspended inbetween. The logs aren't entirely solid - any heavy attacks that strike the ground used on them cause the logs to shake, making it difficult for other characters standing on them to move. After a minute or so, the level starts shifting out the village gates and into the savanna.
The first landmark the level stops briefly at is the Twisted Tree - a barren tree overlooking a small pit. Next to the tree is a spear rack which fighters can arm themselves from (good for throwing), and hanging over the pit from a branch is a gold ring - characters can attack the ring to knock it loose, but it will fall into the pit - daring characters can grab it midair after it falls, which heals them completely (failure to catch it means falling in the pit, of course).
The second landmark/stop is the Ring of Thorns - a literal ring of thorns that hurts anyone that walks into them. The thorns may be attacked by weapons to clear them (takes quite a few hits), and incendiary attacks light them on fire.
After the Ring of Thorns, the level travels across mostly barren savanna (except for the Pool of Peace in the background and a few hidden pitfalls for anyone who walks across them) and returns to the village square, surrounded by huts and featuring a bonfire in the center. On medium length levels, the stage ends here; longer stages start the cycle over again.

New Items:

*Dispel Potion) This small, purple-red bottle doesn't do much direct damage when thrown at an opponent. However, it will totally negate any special items that character has obtained, such as Bunny Hood, Metal Cap, Cloaking Device, and even Stars!
*Staff of Erana) This staff can be swung around as a weapon or thrown at enemies, but with each swing/throw, it emulates a different, random item. So some swings it may work like a fan, some swings may emulate the Home-Run Bat, and throwing it at others may only do a small amount of damage or explode like a Bob-Omb.
*Awful Waffle Walker) This large waffle shows up randomly like other food items, but will begin rolling off in a random direction. Once someone knocks it down with an attack, it can be eaten. Heals as much as a Max Tomato (the Kirby tomato-like food item).
*Good Humor Bar) Though it looks like an orange creamsicle, this bar is actually a bit rubbery, and grants whomever eats it with a great sense of humor. Anyone who eats this will recite the "Ultimate Joke", rendering all other opponents temporarily helpless as they stop to laugh. Only works once per battle.
*Fenris Trophy) This help-trophy summons the rat wizard, Fenris, who will float in place and cause random items to go shooting around the nearby area. Once done with his attack, Fenris summons himself a cheese ball and eats it before leaving. Occasionally it summons his familiar (or is that the other way around?), the archmage Erasmus, who will sit back with a cup of tea and tell jokes for a few moments.

You lost me by the second paragraph...but I think you are talking about a video game right?:O_o:

Anyway, good to know somebody besides me likes to play these Mario games!:D

:iconpaladinwillsteel:
Yeah. Have you ever played "Super Smash Brothers"? Basically, my friend is making a competition where we make up our own characters for it. This is my character. (If you haven't played Super Smash Bros., then most of this will probably just be 'technical jargon'.)
:iconnumber1tolkienfan:
Never played that, no, but I have played Smash Brothers so I've already got a good idea of what you're talking about. What game system is this for?

:iconpaladinwillsteel:
I think -I'm- lost now. Super Smash Bros. -is- Smash Bros., unless there's another game out there with just 'Smash Bros.' as its title.

My character himself is based off of an old PC game called "Quest for Glory", if that's what you're asking about.

And this whole journal isn't for an actual console game, it's for a club here on DA. Check out :iconsupersmashbros-oc:

Ok, I get it. I thought it was a game for Xbox 360 or something. Thanx for clearing that up!!!
